While reciprocal linking may be frowned upon by the search engines, it’s still a very good source of targeted traffic…

I would say that indiscriminate reciprocal linking is frowned upon by the search engines, but careful tactical reciprocal linking benefits everybody and not only is it a good way of getting “quick traffic” it’s a good way to get fairly stable traffic - I have websites that still get traffic from links I swapped over two years ago, and this traffic has steadily increased over the years (both ways).

• The search Engines
• Links on other websites (not link farms, uncategorized link lists and such)

Why are they so good?

Because in both cases the traffic you get from them are people actively looking for information, and information seekers tend to “have their eyes open” when they visit a website.

Getting traffic from a search engine means you need good rankings on a number of pages, and your rankings will depend on the content of the webpage and the total number of unique webpages that link to yours. (more…)
